Terms & Conditions
HelpTo is a community board — use it responsibly.
Effective July 27, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, posting a task, or offering help through HelpTo (the "App"), you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. What HelpTo Is (and Isn't)
HelpTo is a technology platform only. It provides a listing board that lets neighbors post tasks and connect with others willing to help. HelpTo is not a party to any arrangement between users. We do not employ, engage, supervise, direct, endorse, recommend, or act as agent for any user. Helpers and requesters are independent users, not employees, contractors, partners, or agents of HelpTo. We do not verify identities, do not screen tasks, do not handle payments, and do not supervise any meeting, transaction, or activity that results from use of the App.
Every user decides for themselves whether to post a task, accept help, offer help, or meet another user. That decision is yours alone.
2b. No Screening, Background Checks, or Guarantee of Safety
HelpTo does not conduct criminal background checks, identity verification, reference checks, licence checks, or any other screening of users unless a specific screening is expressly and clearly indicated in the App for that user. The absence of a warning, flag, or report about a user does not mean that user has been checked or is safe.
HelpTo cannot and does not guarantee the safety, honesty, character, qualifications, reliability, suitability, sobriety, legal status, or conduct of any user — online or in person. Ratings, badges, completed-task counts, and similar signals are user-generated or automatically derived indicators only; they are not a certification, endorsement, or assurance by HelpTo, and they may be inaccurate or manipulated.
You are solely responsible for evaluating any other user before interacting with them, and you assume all risks of communicating with, meeting, admitting into your home, travelling with, or exchanging anything of value with another user.
2a. No Sharing of Personal Contact Information
HelpTo does not share personal contact information — such as phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, last names, or any other personally identifying details — between the requester and the helper. When a task is claimed, HelpTo opens an in-app private chatbetween the two participants. That chat is the intended channel for coordinating the task.
Anything a user chooses to disclose inside that chat — including a phone number, address, or meeting location — is disclosed voluntarily and at that user's own risk. HelpTo does not moderate, review, or filter chat content in real time, does not verify anything a user claims about themselves, and is not responsible for how information shared in chat is used by the other party.
Do not share government IDs, banking credentials, passwords, or any information you are not comfortable giving to a stranger. If a chat feels unsafe or abusive, stop responding, use the in-app report/block tools, and — if you are in danger — contact your local emergency services.
3. User Responsibilities
You are solely responsible for:
- Your conduct, posts, communications, and any tasks you accept or offer.
- Verifying the identity, trustworthiness, and qualifications of anyone you interact with.
- Complying with all applicable laws, regulations, licensing, insurance, and tax obligations.
- Any payments, refunds, or disputes arising between you and another user.
- Taking reasonable safety precautions before, during, and after any in-person meeting.
4. Prohibited Activities
You agree not to use HelpTo to post, request, offer, or engage in:
- Any illegal activity, or any activity that violates local, state, national, or international law.
- Transport, sale, purchase, or delivery of illegal drugs, weapons, stolen goods, or regulated items you are not licensed to handle.
- Services requiring a professional license you do not hold (medical, legal, financial, electrical, etc.).
- Harassment, threats, hate speech, discrimination, stalking, or exploitation of minors.
- Fraud, scams, misrepresentation, or fake listings.
- Sharing another person's private information without consent.
- Any activity that endangers the safety of yourself or others.
We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts at our sole discretion, with or without notice, especially where we suspect a violation of these Terms.
4a. Payments Between Users
HelpTo does not process, hold, facilitate, or take any cut of payments for tasks. When a task is listed as paid, the amount shown is a suggestion posted by the requester. Any exchange of money, goods, tips, or other consideration is arranged, negotiated, and settled directly between the requester and the helper, using whatever method they agree on (cash, bank transfer, third-party payment app, etc.).
HelpTo is not a party to that transaction, is not an escrow, payment processor, or marketplace, and has no visibility into whether payment was actually sent or received. Refunds, chargebacks, unpaid balances, taxes, and disputes over payment are strictly between the users involved. HelpTo has no obligation to mediate, refund, or reimburse.
The only payments HelpTo itself may receive are voluntary donations from users who wish to help cover the cost of running the app. Donations are non-refundable except where required by law, are not payment for any task, and do not entitle the donor to any additional service, priority, or feature.
5. Safety Notice
Meetings and transactions happen in the real world and carry real risk. Meet in public, well-lit places when possible, tell a friend where you're going, verify names and vehicles, keep valuables and personal documents secured, and trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, walk away and contact local authorities. In an emergency, call your local emergency services.
Do not let a stranger into your home alone if you can avoid it, do not hand over keys, cards, PINs, or banking information, and do not send money in advance.
5a. Vulnerable Persons — Extra Caution Required
Extra caution is required whenever a task involves a senior, a minor, a person with a disability, or anyone else who may be vulnerable. If you are posting or arranging a task on behalf of such a person, you are responsible for supervising that arrangement, and you should arrange for a trusted adult to be present during any in-person meeting.
HelpTo is not designed for the unsupervised care of, or unsupervised access to, vulnerable persons, and must not be used for that purpose. Users under the age of majority in their province may not create an account. HelpTo performs no screening that would make it suitable for work requiring a vulnerable-sector check, and no such check is performed on any user.
5b. Reporting Unsafe Behaviour
You must report unsafe, abusive, fraudulent, threatening, or illegal behaviour immediately using the in-app report and block tools, and contact your local police where a crime may have occurred. Reporting to HelpTo is not a substitute for contacting emergency services.
We review reports as resources permit but do not promise any particular response time or outcome, and we are not able to monitor conduct that happens off the App.
5c. Suspension and Removal of Users
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion and without notice or liability, to restrict, suspend, or permanently ban any user, and to remove any content, for any safety concern, suspected violation of these Terms, or any other reason. We may do this based on a report, our own observation, or information from a third party, and we are not required to explain the decision or reinstate an account.
Exercising (or not exercising) this right does not make HelpTo responsible for screening users or for the conduct of any user, and does not create any duty to detect or prevent harmful behaviour.
6. No Warranty
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability. We do not warrant that any user, task, or exchange arranged through the App will meet your expectations, be safe, be lawful, or be completed.
7. Disclaimer of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, HelpTo, its developer(s), owners, operators, affiliates, contractors, and contributors (together, the "Developer") shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages — including but not limited to personal injury, death, property damage, loss of data, lost profits, theft, fraud, emotional distress, or any harm — arising out of or related to:
- Your use of, or inability to use, the App;
- Any interaction, meeting, transaction, or dispute between users;
- The conduct, acts, or omissions of any user, whether online or offline;
- Any content posted on the App;
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data.
You use HelpTo entirely at your own risk. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, the Developer's aggregate liability to you is limited to the greater of (a) the total fees you paid to the Developer in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) CAD $10.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any rights, remedies, warranties, or guarantees you have that cannot be limited or excluded under Alberta or Canadian consumer protection law, including the Consumer Protection Act (Alberta) and the Sale of Goods Act (Alberta).
8. Release
You release the Developer from any and all claims, demands, and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown, arising out of or in any way connected with disputes between you and any other user of the App, to the fullest extent permitted by Alberta law.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Developer from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the App, your content, your interactions with other users, or your breach of these Terms or any law.
10. Privacy
HelpTo collects and handles personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). We collect only what is needed to run the App (such as your account email, profile details, task posts, and in-app chat messages) and we do not sell your personal information. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us through the App's support channel. Complaints about our privacy practices may also be directed to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
11. Anti-Spam (CASL)
HelpTo complies with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). By creating an account, you consent to receive transactional and account-related electronic messages (for example, task claim notifications, chat alerts, and security notices) that are necessary to operate the App. You can manage push and in-app notification preferences from Settings at any time.
12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Alberta, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree that the courts located in Alberta have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the App, subject to any non-waivable right you have to bring a claim in your local court under applicable consumer protection law.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
14. Contact
Questions about these Terms, or privacy requests under PIPA/PIPEDA, can be sent through the App's support or contact channel.
